stevepill - to understand how difficult this is read some of my early posts. I stopped my wife from taking my son and now she has stopped going so we have made a lot of progress but there are residual issues around emotional intimacy - the legacy of being brought up as a witness is emotional dyfunction. So be very wary but it is not all bad. PM me if you want to chat further. Fraz

Landslide to No - predictably it wasn't even close - the UK politicians who pushed the panic button based on media misrepresentations about it being close are looking pretty silly. The non-Scottish in the UK will be asking why it was necessary to offer additionally sweeteners to the generous subsidies the Scots already get.

It is not that current, but The Wire is my absolute favourite tv series - very clever script writing. Breaking Bad is similar and also good but I prefer The Wire.
I also loved the Sopranos and Deadwood. You can get these as box sets.
I think 24 is overrated - I found it contrived and a bit predicatable.
I also lost interest in Lost after a while.
Black Books is fantastic if you like that dark understated British style of humour.

There is a lot to be said for changing location to suit the season. I plan to split my retirement between the UK, The Philippines and Australia if I can afford it, to avoid winter. I plan to have houses in both the UK and the Philippines and move from the UK to the Philippines in October and return in April. My son and father live in Australia so that would be a regular detour from the Philippines. Just have to make sure I can squirrel away enough retirement money to pay the airfares.

Hawaii, anywhere except Waikiki; Santa Fe, New Mexio; Tuscany, the Dolomites, Umbria or the Amalfi coast in Italy; Split or one of the Croatian islands (just came back from a vacation there - like the Amalfi coast but not as expensive or developed); Seville in Spain; Byron Bay, NSW, Australia; Palawan Island, The Philippines; and the list goes on.

If you feel deceived
by Pinku inyou may be feeling deceived, and may be thinking:.
if jws were gods people, why did they become exactly like the catholic church of the middle ages turning themselves into dogmatic folly?
while claiming to be gods appointed channel on earth, how could they become a cult of intolerance with its raging commanders, a cult where all questioning is banned, and shunning is openly encouraged?.

The bookies have priced in a resounding no vote (I was looking to punt on No but the price was too short) - the press suggesting that a Yes vote is a realistic possibility is for the purpose of making the story more interesting than it really is. Independence is an emotional thing - it is not really in the economic interests of the Scots - there are definite economies of scale in being part of a larger national entity and the government in Westminster gives Scots generous subsidies.

Modern Morality .
by jhine inhaving recently been posting on a thread about ot moral values , which are not widely "appreciated " to say the least , i have been thinking about our modern morals about sex and reletionships , or more acurately the lack of any sexual morals todays .
i don't think that we are better off as a society which has gone so far to the do want you want , with whom you want and when you want approach to sexual ethics as we have .
i don't think that women are actually liberated by this attitude .

Jan - Is having a child with two parents necessarily harm reduction? My parents stayed together despite hating each otherr and living separate lives in the one house (one lived upstairs and the other down) and carrying on a protracted cold war which would occasionally becoming hot as it descended into a yelling match. I would argue that this staying together for the sake of the children caused me more harm than if they had separated.
As for your characterisation of male attitudes to women as 'damn whores or God's policemen' I would say that of course I would not want my sister, daughter etc. to become a sex worker or to be flimed in pornography but at the end of the day I can't control that and if that is a choice freely made (which unfortunately is mostly not the case - it is the coercive aspect of it rather than the shame aspect of it that to my mind is morally repugnant) then so be it. We certainly know that prohibition doesn't work - it increases the likelihood that the sex trade will be controlled by organised crime.

Is the Watchtower a secret society?
by marriedtoajw indoes the watchtower teach that keeping secrets is ok?
does its leadership believe that the advancement of the organization hinges on holding back truthful information from prospective members and others who are not in leadership positions?
do you believe that the organization as a whole has a global agenda?
